What Your Clients Actually Need

An ITAD vendor's certificate of destruction is often a logo and a sentence: "These assets were sanitized." That does not satisfy an auditor. NIST SP 800-88 asks for specifics per asset — serial number, media type, sanitization method, date, and verifier. When your client's auditor requests documentation, a single-line certificate forces the client to chase you for details they needed yesterday.

DestructLog generates a numbered record (DEST-YYYYMMDD-NNN) that lists each asset individually with its serial number, media type, Clear/Purge/Destroy method, NIST section citations, and verification status — everything an auditor looks for, in one document.

How DestructLog Fits Your Workflow

DestructLog works over its API — no UI, no account, no setup. Your operations team exports a CSV from your asset tracking system, sends it to the DestructLog API, and receives a completed sanitization record. The whole cycle takes seconds per batch.

  1. Export your processed assets from your inventory system — serial numbers, media types, methods used, and verifier names.
  2. Send the CSV to DestructLog's /api/generate endpoint. The tool automatically detects the delimiter and maps your column headers.
  3. Receive a numbered sanitization record with per-asset detail, summary counts, and NIST citations. Include it in your reporting package for the client.

What Makes DestructLog Different

  • Per-asset detail. Every drive has its own row with serial number, media type, and method. No lump-sum statements.
  • NIST 800-88 validation. Cleared an SSD? DestructLog flags it — Clear (overwrite) is ineffective for flash media. The document notes the violation with the relevant NIST citation.
  • No storage, no accounts. Your client's asset list does not persist after the document is generated. There is no database to audit, no user accounts to manage.
  • Works with any CSV. Export from your existing asset management system. DestructLog maps your column headers automatically.

What DestructLog Does Not Do

DestructLog documents what you enter. It does not verify that sanitization actually occurred, connect to any hardware or asset system, or certify anything on its own authority. The document states this disclaimer plainly. Your verification process remains your own — DestructLog just handles the paperwork.
