What Is DestructLog?
DestructLog is a tool that records asset sanitization information per NIST 800-88 fields. Enter the assets and the sanitization method used, and get a numbered document that records what NIST SP 800-88 actually requires — per asset, with the method named, the NIST section cited, and the details an auditor needs.
An ITAD vendor's single-line statement is often inadequate. The standard asks for specifics: which sanitization category was used (Clear, Purge or Destroy), what technique, on what media type, who verified it, and when. An auditor asking "how do you know this drive was purged?" needs a document that answers it.
How It Works
Enter assets by serial number with make, media type and method, or paste a list. DestructLog validates each row against the standard — a method that does not apply to that media type is flagged, not accepted — computes the summary counts, and produces a numbered document with the per-asset detail attached. Our Approach
DestructLog is designed to be straightforward:
- No accounts required — Use the tool immediately with no sign-up.
- No data stored — Asset data is processed via the API and is not stored, logged, or retained after the response is delivered.
- No verification claims — The document states plainly that it records what the operator entered and does not itself verify that any asset was sanitized.
- Built on the standard — NIST SP 800-88 Rev. 1 rules are embedded in the validation logic. See NIST 800-88 standards for details.
What DestructLog Does Not Do
